Blog Feature: Live the New Economy

16 Feb

Live the New Economy is a blog about a family preparing for the father’s transition from military service into the civilian world , and what they need to do to be comfortable financially without the guarantee of a government paycheck. Or at least that’s what it started out to be about. Like most personal finance blogs it’s grown and changed a bit as the writer has grown and changed.

That’s not to say they aren’t still prepping for the transition to civilian life, just that the blog has become about more than that. I love this post on Finding Balance.

Blog Feature: Rescued Insanity

07 Apr

Kristine (and Shiva) of Rescued Insanity just celebrated their 2nd blogging anniversary. I haven’t even been reading the blog for a year, so I’m glad they’ve stuck around this long and hope they’re around for another 2+ years.

Her post on Friday, Does Your Dog Have a Theme Song? has had me thinking all night about that. Do June and Larry have a theme song? Did Moree or Smokey? What about little Howie? And honestly, I’m going to be thinking about this for like a week or more- until I come up with theme songs for my dog. Sad, huh?

Blog Feature: The Millionaire Nurse Blog

03 Mar

My beloved Aunt is a nurse. I have worked with some wonderful nurses. Yes, nurses occupy a soft spot in my heart. I think they do a difficult job and often do not get the rewards they deserve. And that’s part of why The Millionaire Nurse Blog is one of my favorites. Dr. Dean has committed himself to sharing information about nurses and for nurses. It’s a nurse blog that cares about personal finances for all.

Besides his regular Best in Nurse Blogs feature, I love his personal finance lessons found anywhere- like in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

It’s a Carnival!

19 Jan

Over at the Dog Ate My Wallet, my personal finance blog, I’m celebrating a milestone. I’ve decided to host a Pets and Personal Finances Carnival. The carnival will go up on Saturday, January 28. If you’ve got a post about pets and money or money and pets, send it on in so that you can be included in the fun.

Just head on over to my Contact page for the email address to send the link to. Please make sure the subject line says Pets/PF Carnival so that I don’t lose it. Entries from any kind of blog are welcome.

Blog Feature: Money Beagle

07 Jan

Can you guess what first attracted me to this blog? Besides the name, head over there and see the picture of the adorable Beagle on his header. Anyone who likes their dog enough to name their blog after it is good in my book.

Money Beagle was kind of a gateway personal finance blog for me- the first one I was reading where I didn’t already have a relationship with the author.

This week, he posted about the coming price increase for Little Caesar’s pizza, and the already here increase on Crazy bread. Darn it, now I’m craving crazy bread…

Blog Feature: Doggerel

31 Dec

Abby over at Doggerel was the first other pet blogger I started following on a regular basis. A lot of the other pet sites I now follow came originally from her Pup Links.  So, thank you for introducing me to some great sites.

Abby doesn’t have a dog, yet, but hopes that will change soon. In the meantime, she’s doing all the studying and volunteering she can, in order to be the best dog owner ever when she finally gets her chance.

What I know is that whatever dog Abby and her husband bring home, will be one lucky pup.

Blog Feature: That Mutt

18 Dec

Sick yesterday so forgot to post this

I read mostly personal finance and pet blogs. Since I started this feature with a personal finance blog, this week, we’re looking at a pet blog. Lindsay at ThatMutt is one of my favorite pet bloggers. She has a practical world view and is more about getting pets into good homes than into a “perfect” home. As Voltiare said, “the perfect is the enemy of the good”.

Today, I am highlighting her post about running with dogs, since that’s her business and I am uber impressed by her ability to run a marathon, let alone roughly 15 miles, every day.

Blog Feature: Daily Money Shot

10 Dec

New feature this week. On Saturdays, I’m going to highlight a post from the previous week that was put up by one of the blogs I read regularly.

For the inaugural feature, I’ve chosen Managing December Birthdays from Daily Money Shot. This was chosen because I happen to have a December birthday and I love what Jana and her husband are doing to make sure their daughter’s birthday remains her special day, despite the rest of the world’s focus on the major holidays happening this time of year.

Wishing Jana’s little girl, and all the other December babies Happy Birthday!

A Nice Surprise

05 Dec

I got a bit of a surprise this weekend when I looked at the stats on my blogs. It turns out, a major personal finance blog, The Consumerist, linked to one of the posts I put up on The Dog Ate My Wallet. Since that post was my yearly rant against commercials that claim luxury cars are good gifts, my post also linked to last year’s posts here. Traffic to all my sites went up considerably, though it was most evident on The Dog Ate My Wallet. My previous traffic high had been 35 views. On Friday, I had 1,390.

I’ve MOVED

As of Saturday, Oct 29, 2011, 100 Words On will be found exclusively over at my new website: www.erinshanendoah.com/100wordson

I’m excited about taking this next step in my on-line presence and hope that my readers will join me in making the transition. You may even find more to love- like my pet or personal finance blogs. Or perhaps you’ll choose to try your hand at super short form writing with the weekly/monthly micro-fiction contest.

Just be warned, before Sunday evening, it’s still a work in progress.
