Blog Feature: Family Money Values

21 Apr

I absolutely love the concept behind Family Money Values- basically, Marie believes money is a family issue, not something secret to be hid from your parents or your children. She believe the path to growing wealth, real wealth, takes generations, and specifically, generations working together to accomplish the goal.

This week, she wrote about the lessons learned from their first family meeting- what went right, what went wrong, and what they needed to change in the future.

I love this concept and hope that I will be able to take Marie’s teachings in to my own family as it grows.

Blog Feature: Budgeting in the Fun Stuff

31 Mar

Crystal at Budgeting in the Fun Stuff represents the dream come true for a lot of bloggers out there- she was able to quit her job to focus on her blogging and blog advertising businesses full time. And not only did she make more money than she had before, she made enough that this year, her husband was able to quit his job and start working full time on the blog with her!

And all of that is great, but the real reason I chose to feature BiFS this week? They just brought home their third rescue dog. Meet Oreo!

Blog Feature: The Millionaire Nurse Blog

03 Mar

My beloved Aunt is a nurse. I have worked with some wonderful nurses. Yes, nurses occupy a soft spot in my heart. I think they do a difficult job and often do not get the rewards they deserve. And that’s part of why The Millionaire Nurse Blog is one of my favorites. Dr. Dean has committed himself to sharing information about nurses and for nurses. It’s a nurse blog that cares about personal finances for all.

Besides his regular Best in Nurse Blogs feature, I love his personal finance lessons found anywhere- like in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Blog Feature: The House of Two Bows

25 Feb

The House of Two Bows is called such because of their Shiba Inu Bowdu and their Basenji Bowpi. They are both beautiful dogs, and one of my favorite things about this blog is her pictures. For February, she’s taking one picture every day and posting it. My favorite so far is this one from just last Monday- Bowpi being chased by the mini-Aussies and a Sheltie. How adorable!

M.C. also tracks their pet spending and does some great reviews of different kinds of dog foods. If you’re interested in dehydrated dog food, this is where I’m going to direct you.

Blog Feature: So Over Debt

18 Feb

Recently, Andrea at So Over Debt became a full time blogger. She was absolutely miserable at her job, and it wasn’t paying what it was supposed to be, so she finally decided it wasn’t worth it, and now she spends her time finding ways to entertain us. Well, maybe that’s not exactly what she spends all of her time on.

She is a fantastic writer though, and one of her posts even got picked up by Reader’s Digest.

This week, she’s been telling it like it is- to her son, and to us. My advice? Don’t stand in her way.

Blog Feature: Average Joe’s Money Blog #yakezie

04 Feb

I wrote a post called “Average Joe’s Deserve to Retire, Too.” Average Joe wrote a post about financial lessons in board games. A geek/ personal finance blogger friendship was born.

Average Joe’s Money Blog is written by two finance professionals, Average Joe and the Other Guy, and they manage to provide sound financial advice in an easy to read format with a good sense of humor. We like humor.

Average Joe is also a cat guy, and managed to convince someone else to write a post that links personal finances to crafty old cats. How can you not like that?

Blog Feature: Another Housewife

22 Jan

I met Mrs C from Another Housewife on the Women in Red message boards. She and I have two very different approaches to life, which is actually one of the things I enjoy most about her posts. She looks at things so differently than I do, that reading her blog helps me expand my horizons.

At the same time, we have a few things in common, too. Not just being bloggers, but we’re both avid readers. I love that she looked up the costs of the books she got from the library to see how much going there saves her.

Blog Feature: Two Pitties in the City

14 Jan

Given a Chicago alderman’s renewed attempt to ban Pit Bulls in the city, I want to highlight the wonderful people at Two Pitties in the City.

I love Pits. I think they are absolutely wonderful, sweet, and loving dogs. It is not the fault of the dogs that they’re currently the breed of choice for idiots.

The people at Two Pitties are also the founders of SociaBulls (look for them on FaceBook), a group that takes their Pits (and other dogs) on large group walks throughout the city. Hopefully, they will be able to counter some of the negative press.

Blog Feature: Daily Money Shot

10 Dec

New feature this week. On Saturdays, I’m going to highlight a post from the previous week that was put up by one of the blogs I read regularly.

For the inaugural feature, I’ve chosen Managing December Birthdays from Daily Money Shot. This was chosen because I happen to have a December birthday and I love what Jana and her husband are doing to make sure their daughter’s birthday remains her special day, despite the rest of the world’s focus on the major holidays happening this time of year.

Wishing Jana’s little girl, and all the other December babies Happy Birthday!
