Bringing Up Bella is dedicated to Leslie’s current dog, Bella. She’s a sweet little thing, but has some “issues”- such as extreme fear of thunderstorms (which I completely understand). While she is definitely loved and adored, Bella is not Leslie’s first dog, and we all know how hard it can be for the new dog to stack up against the old dog. We get a good look at their differences in Opposites Distract. But the thing Leslie really does remember is that it’s not about the dog that was, it’s about the dog that is, even if she’s Not Quite Perfect.

Blog Feature: My Broken Coin
Aloysa over at My Broken Coin has a problem- she loves to shop. In fact, her shopping addiction is why her coin is broken, so to speak. One of my favorite things about Aloysa is her honesty with herself and her readers about her struggles with money and how to save for a future while still enjoying today.
As much as I love her honesty, I think my favorite posts from her are when she does a list. Aloysa does great lists. Most recently it was 20 Things Bloggers Should Stop Doing.
All I have to say is, I agree.
Blog Feature: Love & a Six-Foot Leash
Love & a Six-Foot Leash is the blog of a family that recently moved to Austin. They have an older pit bull, Chick, and have been fostering Pits for quite some time. Chick has put up with the fosters, but with their latest foster dog, Snickerdoodle, Sir Chick fell in love. He found his brother from another mother, and guess what, the Dude is staying with the family, and going back to school.
They will stop fostering, with two of their own now, but hopefully they won’t stop blogging, as I’m looking forward to the adventures of Chick and Dude.
Blog Feature: The Millionaire Nurse Blog
My beloved Aunt is a nurse. I have worked with some wonderful nurses. Yes, nurses occupy a soft spot in my heart. I think they do a difficult job and often do not get the rewards they deserve. And that’s part of why The Millionaire Nurse Blog is one of my favorites. Dr. Dean has committed himself to sharing information about nurses and for nurses. It’s a nurse blog that cares about personal finances for all.
Besides his regular Best in Nurse Blogs feature, I love his personal finance lessons found anywhere- like in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Sunday Mornings
Besides my critique group, one of the things I love about getting up every other Sunday to come to critique is the chance to see Seattle wake up. Sitting in a Starbucks in SoDo, there’s a very diverse crowd. From the occasional take over from ravers to tailgaters during the football season, from the homeless to people meeting a real estate agent to fill out paperwork, from cops to yuppies, they all need their morning caffeine.
I often wonder how different this place is on weekdays. What’s the crowd like then? Do any of the Monday people spend hours here?
Blog Feature: The House of Two Bows
The House of Two Bows is called such because of their Shiba Inu Bowdu and their Basenji Bowpi. They are both beautiful dogs, and one of my favorite things about this blog is her pictures. For February, she’s taking one picture every day and posting it. My favorite so far is this one from just last Monday- Bowpi being chased by the mini-Aussies and a Sheltie. How adorable!
M.C. also tracks their pet spending and does some great reviews of different kinds of dog foods. If you’re interested in dehydrated dog food, this is where I’m going to direct you.
Blog Feature: So Over Debt
Recently, Andrea at So Over Debt became a full time blogger. She was absolutely miserable at her job, and it wasn’t paying what it was supposed to be, so she finally decided it wasn’t worth it, and now she spends her time finding ways to entertain us. Well, maybe that’s not exactly what she spends all of her time on.
She is a fantastic writer though, and one of her posts even got picked up by Reader’s Digest.
This week, she’s been telling it like it is- to her son, and to us. My advice? Don’t stand in her way.
Blog Feature: The Chronicles of Cardigan
I love Corgis. We often think “Our next dog should be a Corgi”. Mind you, we’ve been thinking this since before we got Junebug (though before we got Smokey we thought we should get a Beagle, so maybe down the road there will be a Corgi.) While I think all Corgis are cute, I am partial to the Cardigans- the ones with tails.
Currently, I get my Corgi fix via The Chronicles of Cardigan. It’s a mostly lighthearted blog that focuses on the joy dogs bring us. How can you not smile seeing these great pictures of a happy dog?
Blog Feature: Average Joe’s Money Blog #yakezie
I wrote a post called “Average Joe’s Deserve to Retire, Too.” Average Joe wrote a post about financial lessons in board games. A geek/ personal finance blogger friendship was born.
Average Joe’s Money Blog is written by two finance professionals, Average Joe and the Other Guy, and they manage to provide sound financial advice in an easy to read format with a good sense of humor. We like humor.
Average Joe is also a cat guy, and managed to convince someone else to write a post that links personal finances to crafty old cats. How can you not like that?
Blog Feature: Kenzo the Hovawart and Viva
I know, your first questions is “What is a Hovawart?”. Can I answer that by saying that Kenzo and Viva live in Denmark. I know that’s not an answer, especially since the breed appears to be almost as rare in Europe as it is here in the US.
Hovawarts look kind of like Golden Retrievers to me, so it amazes me that they are one of the breeds often discriminated against, as a “dangerous”, but they are.
I hate breed specific legislation and my favorite thing about this blog is the dedication to making it visible, and fighting against it.
