Blog Feature: Doggerel

31 Dec

Abby over at Doggerel was the first other pet blogger I started following on a regular basis. A lot of the other pet sites I now follow came originally from her Pup Links.  So, thank you for introducing me to some great sites.

Abby doesn’t have a dog, yet, but hopes that will change soon. In the meantime, she’s doing all the studying and volunteering she can, in order to be the best dog owner ever when she finally gets her chance.

What I know is that whatever dog Abby and her husband bring home, will be one lucky pup.

Blog Feature: That Mutt

18 Dec

Sick yesterday so forgot to post this

I read mostly personal finance and pet blogs. Since I started this feature with a personal finance blog, this week, we’re looking at a pet blog. Lindsay at ThatMutt is one of my favorite pet bloggers. She has a practical world view and is more about getting pets into good homes than into a “perfect” home. As Voltiare said, “the perfect is the enemy of the good”.

Today, I am highlighting her post about running with dogs, since that’s her business and I am uber impressed by her ability to run a marathon, let alone roughly 15 miles, every day.

To Do List

19 Nov

Today’s list of things to do includes taking Larry to the dog park. Junebug could use a run, too, but not a good idea with the stitches. Then I need to take income verification paperwork to my MIL for her to sign and then go drop that off at her apartment complex. Then it’s home to start the cleaning so that I don’t have 5 million things to do on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving- vacuuming, bathroom clean up, preliminary kitchen clean, start the decluttering process. And maybe finish the day with buying a turkey fryer (oil-less).  What a fun day.

Running behind on a Saturday

05 Nov

On round 4 of antibiotics for June, the second round of Baytril, and she’s finally responding the way you expect an animal (or person) to respond- ie the swelling in her glands is significantly down. We don’t know if the infection finally broke, if it has to do with the fact that it was a bug bite that caused it (and a google search seemed to indicate that those took longer to respond) or if the first round of Baytril was past its expiriation date. We don’t know, but don’t really care. She’s getting better and that’s all that matters.

Perceptions in Advertising

25 Oct

It’s funny to me what different people notice about the same thing. There’s currently a Toyota commercial where a guy walks out to an empty driveway and the car is built around him. I hate it because it starts with check text messages and FaceBook, and I don’t think that’s something you should be doing while driving. That doesn’t bother my husband, because the guy’s still in the driveway when it happens.

What does our new roommate notice about the commercial? When he adds a dog, then a bigger dog, both are wearing doggie seatbelt harnesses. That I can support.

Doggie Drama

Our Beagle has an infection of some sort. Sadly, it’s one that does not want to clear up and has been going on for over two weeks now.

We just got back from our 4th visit to the vet for this problem, and our 4th round of injections. Amazingly enough, Junebug still likes the vets.

We started on a weak anti-biotic, then went to a stronger one, and now we’re at the granddaddy of doggie anti-biotics- Baytril. Hoping this finally gets those swollen glands back to normal, and we can stop the vet visits (at least for a little while).

So Glad Today is Tuesday

20 Sep

Monday was a Monday. I’d been off work since last Tuesday, came in late and had a meeting to go to after I tried to catch up on all emails. I came home find out our Chevy didn’t come with a jag or a lug wrench. The VW’s jack worked, but its lug wrench would not fit. So we called roadside assistance who changed the tire for us and then we took it to Les Schwab and got a new tire.

After that, our beagle spent an hour running around through some blackberries.

I was so happy for new TV.

Ode to a Quiet Saturday

01 May

Every once in a while, its nice to have a quiet day. Yesterday we did laundry and dishes, changed the light fixture in our room. We only left the house to take the dogs to the dog park.  Dinner was simple pot stickers and rice, and the evening ended watching the anime series Fruit’s Basket.

It was just one of those days that we really needed to wind down, after a couple weeks of being really social and having places to be.

And, there is nothing that makes me smile at the end of a day more than sleeping puppies.

Priorities

24 Apr

I am apparently not home enough. At least according to my Beagle, who decided that instead of typing this post, I should be paying attention to her. She is small enough to jump on my lap, and so up she came. However, she’s big enough that she can’t really settle. She’s constantly having to shift her weight in order to stay balanced on my thighs and knees. This is not an issue on the couch or in the recliner, but on the computer chair, its precarious. So off the computer I get in order to give the puppies some love.

Mythbusters on Colbert

12 Apr

Mythbusters on Colbert! I loved this interview because it reminded me of something I noticed when we saw Mythbusters Live- Jamie doesn’t like to talk, or Adam just likes to talk so much more. Except for the brief bit about his dog getting confused by the MI masks, Jamie didn’t talk. It was all Adam.

I am kind of hoping they’ll use that footage of Jamie’s dog, though, and do a myth about how dogs recognize people. Those of us who’ve had a dog go blind know how much they use their eyes, but most people think its all scent.
