Currently Watching: The Dresden Files

14 Jun

We’re re-watching The Dresden Files. The show was my first introduction to Harry Dreseden; I hadn’t read any of the books. Now that I have, the show is still enjoyable. However, I’m noticing how my reactions to things have changed.

I love Bob as a character, and when I first read the books, I was disappointed that the character in the book was not the same as the character in the show- similar, but with a different origin. Now, I wonder why they felt the need to make Bob different for the show, as he’s pretty perfect in the books.

Watching: Haven

17 Sep

I’m not a Stephen King fan, but we decided to start watching the new SyFy show Haven when it started this summer. So far I am really enjoying it. More than anything it reminds me of early X-Files- there’s a new monster every week and good, though not really romantic, chemistry between the two leads. There is also, I think, a little bit of poking fun at Murder She Wrote- every week in this little town in Maine, there’s a new murder. But in this case, everyone knows that something is wrong. It makes for an enjoyable bit of camp.

My Favorite Actors: Rutger Hauer

09 Sep

Ladyhawke, need I say more? Ladyhawke may be the only “A” movie Rutger Hauer ever starred in (unless you count his role in Blade Runner as starring), and even if it were the only movie he ever made, I would love him.  But I have also seen a number of his “B” movies, and they are all works of cheesy sci-fi greatness. In today’s world, he would star in every Syfy channel original movie ever made. Even his turn in the original Buffy movie was perfect over the top acting.

Watch Flesh + Blood, Blood of Heroes, Crossworlds. Trust me.

My Favorite TV Shows – Eureka

02 Jul

I love Eureka. I don’t care if their science is anywhere close to right. I like the way the play with possibility. They have done time travel in a way I believe, had a Groundhog Day episode that did not feel like a copycat, and managed to redeem the characters you thought were bad guys.

The biggest plot hole is that everyone was uber paranoid when the sheriff first showed up but since then, a major character randomly arrived in town, and the sheriff’s sister and showed up, with no one seeming to mind that she learned the town’s secret.
