Published!

05 Jun

As many of you know, I’m a writer. Okay, given the number of blogs I have, that seems kind of silly to announce. However, in addition to blogs, I am a writer of fiction, and today I am proud to announce that Conquest Through Determination: A Steampunk Anthology, the first print publication I have been part of, is available through Amazon.

I love the short story I contributed to this anthology, and cannot wait to get my copy in the mail.

Previously, I’ve only been published online or in something I created myself, so I am very excited about this.

Blog Feature: The Happy Homeowner

02 Jun

I figured this was a good weekend to highlight Jen at The Happy Homeowner because she has so many exciting things going on right now. She recently changed the look of the site (I love it), quit her full time job without having another one lined up (she does have a part time job and some other business ventures), and oh yeah, recently came out of the closet, introducing herself to us, instead of remaining anonymous.

So head on over there, wish her luck on her goals, on her new job interview, let her know we like knowing her name.

Blog Feature: Take Paws @ GoPetFriendly.com

26 May

Its Memorial Day weekend, and we all know what that means- start of the summer travel season. That means it’s the perfect time to highlight GoPetFriendly.com and their blog, Take Paws. The good folks at GePetFriendly are dedicated to helping you find great travel ideas that include your furry friends- from pet friendly hotels, to updates on airline pet policies, they have it covered.

This week, in prep for Memorial Day, they posted their Tips for Summer Pet Travel. These are great reminders for keeping you and your pets safe, and making sure that you remain welcome wherever you go.

Blog Feature: Frugal Portland

19 May

Frugal Portland is a new blog to me, but I enjoy it quite a bit. I’m featuring it because this afternoon, I am most likely making a road trip down to Portland in order to drop a bed off for my cousin (and maybe a vacuum). Since Portland is on my mind, I figured it should be on yours, too.

I want to highlight her post on getting your First Job Out of College, because I think that’s something a lot of college kids aren’t prepared for- not going to work, but not having a definitive end point in sight.

Blog Feature: Tales and Tails

12 May

Let me start by saying that if you want to see some lovely photographs of dogs, you definitely need to head over to Tales and Tails. And while the Greyhounds, both Bunny and Blueberry, are absolutely gorgeous, I am partial to the shepherds. I grew up with an amazing GSD, so I just cannot help but be like everyone else, including the vet school students, and be in love with little Kuster. I am partial to crazy Morgan, though, too. And I just want to give her a hug, not that she would ever let me, but I want to.

Blog Feature: American Debt Project

05 May

I enjoy American Debt Project. She’s honest about her situation, her goals, and when she messes up. In fact, I often think she’s too hard on herself. It’s a problem I’ve noticed with a lot of personal finance bloggers. Even though we start blogging because we have made mistakes, and we want other people to know that that’s okay, we start to expect perfection from ourselves. Well, none of us, not even the big name personal finance bloggers, are perfect. We all take our own road to financial freedom. I’m happy to be sharing the journey with American Debt Project.

Blog Feature: Something Wagging this Way Comes

28 Apr

Pamela has not been blogging there much lately, but it still surprised me when realized I had not yet done a blog feature on Something Wagging This Way Comes. I consistently enjoy Pamela’s writing, her positive attitude, and the lessons she is able to learn from her beautiful Golden Retriever, Honey. In fact, my favorite posts of hers are from her Puppiness Project series, where she attempts to learn lessons about how to be happy from Honey. The latest, The Blessing Accompanies the Curse, is a reminder to see a silver lining in every cloud, just like our dogs do.

Blog Feature: Family Money Values

21 Apr

I absolutely love the concept behind Family Money Values- basically, Marie believes money is a family issue, not something secret to be hid from your parents or your children. She believe the path to growing wealth, real wealth, takes generations, and specifically, generations working together to accomplish the goal.

This week, she wrote about the lessons learned from their first family meeting- what went right, what went wrong, and what they needed to change in the future.

I love this concept and hope that I will be able to take Marie’s teachings in to my own family as it grows.

Blog Feature: Rescued Insanity

07 Apr

Kristine (and Shiva) of Rescued Insanity just celebrated their 2nd blogging anniversary. I haven’t even been reading the blog for a year, so I’m glad they’ve stuck around this long and hope they’re around for another 2+ years.

Her post on Friday, Does Your Dog Have a Theme Song? has had me thinking all night about that. Do June and Larry have a theme song? Did Moree or Smokey? What about little Howie? And honestly, I’m going to be thinking about this for like a week or more- until I come up with theme songs for my dog. Sad, huh?

Blog Feature: Budgeting in the Fun Stuff

31 Mar

Crystal at Budgeting in the Fun Stuff represents the dream come true for a lot of bloggers out there- she was able to quit her job to focus on her blogging and blog advertising businesses full time. And not only did she make more money than she had before, she made enough that this year, her husband was able to quit his job and start working full time on the blog with her!

And all of that is great, but the real reason I chose to feature BiFS this week? They just brought home their third rescue dog. Meet Oreo!
