Blog Feature: American Debt Project

05 May

I enjoy American Debt Project. She’s honest about her situation, her goals, and when she messes up. In fact, I often think she’s too hard on herself. It’s a problem I’ve noticed with a lot of personal finance bloggers. Even though we start blogging because we have made mistakes, and we want other people to know that that’s okay, we start to expect perfection from ourselves. Well, none of us, not even the big name personal finance bloggers, are perfect. We all take our own road to financial freedom. I’m happy to be sharing the journey with American Debt Project.

  1. Well thank you very much!!! This is more than a boost, it's added motivation to not stop writing. I do know I sound hard on myself in my posts, but only because I am not very hard on myself in real life :). And your comments always keep my grounded. My debt is symbolic of how I have been somewhat stuck in my 20s, trying to figure out what to do. Now I think I have a clue and I'm working towards a lot of things, but it's not always a straight path. But being around other bloggers is a big motivation!

I don't know that debt is a symbol of being stuck in your 20s. For many I knew, it was a symbol of their adulthood. And who wants to completely let go of their 20s? that's a whole decade that shaped us as adults. Stop thinking of your debt as a reminder of "irresponsible" days and think of it as a measure of how you have grown, changed, and learned to view the world in a new way.
