The Voice (s3- Battle Rounds 2)

10 Oct

Not quite certain what I think about The Voice not showing all the battle rounds. I know that there’s the knock out round this year, which means we have one more round in the same number of shows, but I have to wonder why the extra time wasn’t taken from the Blind Auditions.

I was okay with it when I thought I could log into the website to see the full battles. But no, it was just the same short clip from the show last night. Do we expect the winners of those battles to fall in the knockout round?

The Voice (s3- Battle Rounds 1)

09 Oct

We missed the first half of The Voice last night, but I watched the performances we missed online this morning. C was especially disappointed that we missed Santeria last night as that’s one of his favorite songs.

What I like most about the battle rounds this year is the steal. I’ve commented in past years on the fact that sometimes, a coach manages to put two of their best people up against each other and a really good singer gets knocked out of the competition too early. The steal allows for that person to have the chance to stick around.

MythBusters Season 9 Premier: I missed it

08 Oct

Last night was the start of season 9 of MythBusters, and I missed it. I blame FaceBook. I don’t blame FaceBook because I was busy playing Bejeweled Blitz or Hidden Chronicles. I blame FaceBook because some time ago, it decided to stop showing my the MythBusters feed, despite the fact that I am “subscribed” to it. You see, I use these feeds to know when new seasons start, since we don’t watch a whole lot of TV. In my mind, it wasn’t time for a new MythBusters yet because I hadn’t seen anything on FaceBook about when new episodes started.

The Voice (s3)

For those wondering, yes I am watching The Voice again this season. I am not blogging the blind audition rounds because I don’t find them terribly interesting, and so far, no one has chosen a contestant that really annoys me (unlike last season).

I know the producers want us to wonder whether or not people are getting chosen, but I do get annoyed by watching people for whom no chairs turn around when they are skipping half of the people who are chosen.

My other annoyance is that women who are iffy are getting chosen over men who are good.

Survivorman is Back

03 Sep

You know that old question- if you could be stranded on a desert island with only one other person, who would it be? My answer, unequivocally- Les Stroud, Survivorman. I am thrilled that he’s back on the air with his new show, Survivorman 10 Days, where he gets stranded somewhere, alone, for ten days. Each episode shows five days of an adventure.

He is actually alone, just him and his cameras, but he does have radio contact with his safety crew- usually only used when conditions get too dangerous for all of them- and he admits it. Welcome back, Survivorman.

BBCA’s Copper

27 Aug

I’ve been enjoying the new BBCA show Copper, about an Irish cop in the Five Corners area ofNew York, just as the Civil War is winding down. There are some characters that aren’t fully fleshed out yet- the black doctor’s wife, who seems to exist solely to pull guns on the Irish cops needing her husband’s help, the second of the main character’s two closest friends, and the super rich father of the rich officer our main character (and the black doctor) saved the life of while they were all serving in the war. But I’ll give it time.

The Olympics On Demand

09 Aug

While there are problems with the NBC Olympic coverage, and it does not seem fair to need a Comcast account to watch some of the online content, I have to admit, I love having the Olympics On Demand. I am not worried about “spoilers”, so I don’t care that it takes a couple of days for events to make it to On Demand. But I am not up until midnight every night. Olympics On Demand lets me go and watch events that were broadcast while I was sleeping- without commercials and without cutting away to another sport in the middle.

Summer Olympics

30 Jul

I love the Olympics. Love them. I spent the weekend watching fencing, archery, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, diving, swimming, cycling, and gymnastics. We watched via television programming, online video, and even a live stream or two.

We are not huge sports fans in our house, especially not my husband. But something about the Olympics makes me want to watch things I’d never otherwise watch. (Okay, I totally watch gymnastics and beach volleyball if I come across them, but I don’t go looking for them.)

Anyway, I love the Olympics and am looking forward to two more full weeks of competition.

Eureka Series Finale

17 Jul

My senior year of high school two of my favorite shows had their series finales- Quantum Leap and Star Trek: The Next Generation. I recorded both and watched them multiple times. That final episode of Quantum Leap never fails to make me cry.

Since then, I haven’t cared much about the coming and goings of shows. I liked Buffy and Firefly, but I wasn’t attached, so to speak. Last night was the series finale ofEurekaon Syfy. I haven’t watched faithfully for the last couple of seasons, but we made sure to tune in last night to say goodbye.

Television

05 Jul

Today our cable gets upgraded. And I’m sad. We have to have a home phone. Going without one is no longer an option, so we’re upgrading from limited basic cable (we got local broadcast, PBS, and Discovery) to regular basic. We’re going from 13 watchable channels to over 100. I know that should seem great, but there’s a reason we dropped down to the limited to begin with. And we’ve really liked not having the TV on all the time.

Let’s hope our new habit of only turning on the TV when there’s something we want to watch can hold.
