I know that name

Unless it’s Spielberg or Lucas, if you advertise a movie by naming the director, I probably don’t want to see it. If you name Cameron or Bay, I know I don’t want to see it (at least not pay to see it). So for the most part, I don’t pay attention to directors. Writing and acting matter much more to me.

Still, at the end of The Debt, when John Madden’s name flashed across the screen, I couldn’t help but think, “that was totally a Madden ending”. Then I wondered if I should figure out what other movies he’s directed.

Movie Review: The Debt

I vaguely remember hearing about The Debt when it first came out. I do love Helen Mirren. But we rarely go see movies in theaters, and it is one that flew enough below the radar that I had completely forgotten about it.

We watched it tonight. It was a little more drama than action, but well-acted drama, which matters. I’m pretty sure I had heard the basics of the story before (thanks to a writing friend), but that didn’t mean I knew what was going to happen. The ending was certainly not uplifting, but still satisfying. And I’ll take that.
