Blog Feature: You Did What With Your Weiner

24 Nov

We judge people by their dogs. We think differently about a woman with a Chihuahuathan one with a Lab. A guy with a Pit Bull is very different, at least in our minds, than the guy with a Border Collie. If you have small dogs, there are lots of things people think you can’t do with your dog. At You Did What With Your Weiner, they are working on proving those expectations false, doing their best to prove that even little dogs can have big adventures.

In fact, on Thanksgiving, they were out hiking snow covered mountains, mini-Dachshunds included.

Blog Feature: Oh, Corbin

27 Oct

On some level, it’s kind of nice to realize I haven’t featured one of my favorite blogs, yet. it makes writing easy. Corbin is a beautiful Pit mix who is one of the happiest dogs around. He often shares his happiness with foster dogs, almost all of them also Pit mixes- and guess what, everyone is happy and playful and gets along just fine.

Oh, Corbin is mostly told from Corbin’s point of view, though he occasionally lets ‘the mama” write something. This post, from two weeks ago, has almost no words, though, and is absolutely one of my favorites.

Blog Feature: Len Penzo dot com

06 Oct

I should have featured LenPenzo.com a long time ago. Not because I have been reading him for a long time, but because I should have been reading Len for much longer than I have been- if for no other reason than that he does a weekly 100 Words On post (there are other reasons). That is right- he uses this format, too.

I had a chance to meet Len at FinCon, and he is a great guy. Unsurprising that he has a great blog and makes use of a fabulous concept. This week’s 100 words was on avoiding burn out.

Blog Feature: I Still Want More Puppies

29 Sep

If you can’t guess what I still Want More Puppies is about then you might have reading comprehension problems. I love her humor, her terrible, usually very geeky, pet names, the multiple links, and, of course, the pictures of her puppies. But this week, it was a guest post that really caught my attention. Keep Calm and Carry a Blanket was written in honor of Senior Pet Health month, and it is a loving tribute to the author’s senior dog.

I only hope we are giving Howie the same kind of love and care that she is giving her Cleo.

Blog Feature: @AffordAnything

22 Sep

Paula of Afford Anything gave one of my favorite talks at FinCon12, earning her her spot as this week’s Blog Feature.

Since C really wants us to own rental property someday, I find this post on how the costs of renovating one of her rental units spun out of control really valuable. And also how even a fairly experienced landlord can have a hard time figuring out what to price a unit at.

The place looks great and she has a tenant, which in my mind is a win-win scenario, especially if she can increase the rent in one year.

Blog Feature: PT Money

08 Sep

This weekend I am in Denverfor FinCon12, the annual conference for financial bloggers. You can bet I’m having a great time hanging out with a number of the bloggers I have gotten to know over the last not quite 2 years. But as a blog feature, I feel it is only fair this week to highlight PT Money, the blog of the host founder of FinCon, Philip Taylor. The site is filled with practical advice, written by Philip and his contributors. I love this recent guest post 5 Financial Moves to Make Immediately After You Get a New Job.

Blog Feature: The Poodle (and dog) Blog

01 Sep

I love The Poodle (and dog) Blog mostly because she finds animal stories in the news and blogs about them. Since many of these items are regional, I’d never hear about them if it weren’t for her.

For example, this week there’s a post about PETA losing a lawsuit against the Happy Cows  of California (PETA claimed false advertising- no way the cows were happy) and one about a woman fired for taking good pictures of animals in the care of New York City’s animal control department. (Okay, that’s not the reason they give, but it seems to fit reality.)

Blog Feature: The Family CEO

11 Aug

Julie is The Family CEO. I love that title. I don’t know that I can claim that title myself, as right now C and I are more like partners, but I think I could claim the title family CFO. But that’s beside the point. One of the things I like about The Family CEO blog is that it’s not just about personal finance, but it’s about running a household, finding ways to make more money when time is the one thing you don’t have to spare, and all sorts of other goodness. Right now, I’m loving her potted herb garden.

Blog Feature: Pittieful Love

04 Aug

I love Pit Bulls. I do not currently have one, but I still love them. have never met a Pit that didn’t respond to me kisses and head butts. This is one reason I love Pittieful Love. They are dedicated to helping get the message of how great these dogs are out to the wider world. Besides blogging, they also foster, and, of course, have their own Pittie love.

This year has been a rough year for the family, losing their first dog, but they have found a new member of the family, and this week, he gets Squeeky Clean.

Blog Feature: Sustainable Life Blog

28 Jul

C and I try to be as environmentally responsible as possible. We often make decisions between multiple products based on the environmental impact. Because of this, I love reading about other people who are doing the same thing (often better than we are). Naturally I am choosing the time frame while Jeff is on his honeymoon (Congratulations Jeff and H!) to highlight Sustainable Life Blog, but I always enjoy reading his take on things.

And this week, his review of his Greensmart bag is making me interested in looking that direction next time I need to replace an all-purpose bag.
