NaNoWriMo

30 Oct

It’s almost November, and everywhere, novelists and want to be novelists are preparing for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The goal of NaNoWriMo is to write an entire novel (50,000 words) in a single month. I will not be participating.

It has nothing to do with needing to write 1667 words per day. I could do that in 2-3 hours. It has to do with my process. Even if I think I know where the story is going when I start, it rarely follows the map. True, NaNoWriMo is about volume, not quality, but the novel still needs internal cohesion.

  1. I think NaNoWriMo is about volume and quality. That's why it's such a small word count: 1667 is a reachable goal by many novelists. I love NaNo because it gathers writers together. And the fun ensues. We have a lot of fun, but we also get a lot of writing done.

I'm Darlene, known as Trilli on http://www.nanowrimo. I am the Municipal Liaison for Tacoma::PIerce County. And rebels are awesome too! We appreciate all novelists. Keep writing.

Ah, how's it going? I just searched for NaNo on WordPress and am reading all the posts, lol :) I guess that seems slightly stalkerish but I wanted to know what other people were saying about it!

That's not stalkerish. That's smart. I finished my novel, and the mock-up for my cover is on my blog, below. Check it out and let me know what you think. The novel went well, it's going to need a lot of edits, but all first drafts do. Good luck with the writing!
