Hello, my name is Erin, and I’m an addict. I’ve been playing Bejeweled since the 90s. For years, I played the game as it was intended to be played, casually.
Then came Bejeweled Blitz. Not only was it Bejeweled in handy 1 minute increments so, but it kept score. I had friends who played. Then my dad and my brother started playing, and I was lost.
Now, I have rules for how often I can spend my coins (I have over 200,000), know the schedule for free boosts, and can lose hours to the game. Casual has left the building.
I introduced my father to Freecell once, when he was at my house and looking bored. He now has a numbered list of all scenarios, and how many attempts it took him to win each one. He also obsesses over his overall percentage of success.
All of which is "normal obsessive."
He ALSO tracks the statistics of how many tries it will likely take him to win a game, based on how many times it took him to win the previous game … which has strong correlations. Casual was taken to the alley and shot twice in the head, execution-style.
