Board Game: Puerto Rico

04 Jun

We recently bought the board gamePuerto Rico. We had played it before at a friend’s house and I really enjoyed it. So, we picked it up when a local game store was having a sale. Before I had always played it with 4-5 players. We have mostly played with 3 players since buying it.Puerto Ricois a very different game with 3 players. This was really brought home to me last night when we played 5 player again.

I don’t know that I would say the strategy is different, but that with three players the strategy is delayed.

Retirement Articles

03 Jun

There are a million retirement articles out there that tell you what milestones you should be hitting to retire a millionaire, or at least have a comfortable retirement. The thing is, a lot of us aren’t going to meet these milestones, though some people will.

Others, due to time spent in college, may not meet early milestones but will be able to have a comfortable retirement due to increased earnings later.

It can all be very confusing, and it’s nice to have people to talk to about whether or not by 35 you should have 1.4 times your salary saved.

Bonus Hockey Content: The Stanley Cup Finals

02 Jun

The Stanley Cup Finals have started. Go Canucks!

I missed the first two periods of the game last night, so I missed all of the penalties. Instead, I only saw the third period, which was 20 minutes of hard fought 5 on 5 play. It was amazing.

The Canucks were definitely on offense more, but Tim Thomas stood on his head in net for the Bruins. When Torres scored the game’s only goal with 19 seconds left, it was a thing of beauty. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be inVancouverat that moment.

MythBusters (ep 167)

02 Jun

About the myths: I’m not surprised you can’t dodge a bullet aimed at your chest, but what about one aimed at your head? That would require much less movement.

And while water may not be compressible, it is easily displaced.

One thing they did last night that bugged me- when the timing foil for the gun didn’t work at first, they did not show us how they fixed it, or tell us why it didn’t work in the beginning. I learn as much from their experiment set up as I do the experiments, and I really wanted to know more.

The Voice (5)

01 Jun

Last of the battle rounds. Next week, the live shows begin. What that means, exactly, who knows. But I’ll tune in next week to find out.

For the first time, I disagreed with a coach’s decision. I thought Christina got it wrong. Her choice has great power in her voice and she can hit the high notes, plus she was definitely the “hotter” of the two.  But power and ability to hit notes doesn’t matter if you can’t sing the entire song. I thought the other girl had a better voice and more consistency.

Strongest teams: Cee Lo and Adam.
