Blog Feature: Cindy Lu’s Muse

12 Jan

Cindy Lu is pretty adorable. Her blog though, isn’t all about cuteness and light. In fact, it’s one of the few blogs I read that actively and regularly tackles the issue of pet stores and puppy mills. Earlier this month, she celebrated the closing of LA Barkworks, a major pet store that carried puppy mill dogs. In the past, she’s addressed multiple issues with  Happiness is Pets stores, including when protests against them turned violent.

This is not easy subject matter, but she treats it with grace and honesty, and a passion for animals. And there’s plenty of cute, too.

Blog Feature: Add Vodka

05 Jan

You know the old saying- When life gives you lemons…Add Vodka. I absolutely love the title of this blog, and it really is a reason in and of itself to read, but it’s not the only reason. Daisy has a great sense of humor and just a fun take on life and finances. But she also loves having a plan, and today lays out 2013: The Plan. She had an amazing 2012, and if she can stick with this plan, I think 2013 might be even better. Her plans are ambitious, but all the good ones are. Best of luck!

Blog Feature: Little Seattle Obersvationist

22 Dec

Little Seattle Observationist is written by a friend of mine. It’s not really a pet blog, but recently, she added a new friend, Harvey, to her household. So now she has a Formosan Mountain Dog (Basenji/terrier mix) and a cat, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the blog start drifting toward her adventures with her animals. But besides writing about the fact that picking up dog poop is not that gross, she also writes about her life and events in Seattle.

Take a moment to swing on by and congratulate her and the cat and their newfound family member.

Blog Feature: Frugal Rules

15 Dec

I’m bad about sharing the blogs I read and follow on social media. Yes, I’m on twitter, but I almost never retweet. I only share 4 blog posts per genre a week (and not always every week). There are people who do so much more. But I do have this blog feature, and today  I want to use it to feature Frugal Rules. John retweets every post I make at Dog Ate My Wallet. He is a fairly new blogger, but he’s written some great posts. This week, you might want to check out his thoughts on frugal holiday tipping.

Blog Feature: No Dog About It Blog

08 Dec

Let’s just start with the fact that Mel’s blog is terrific at all times. She writes from the heart. And you can see how much she loves her dogs. But after having experienced having a missing dog a year ago, she shines now as an advocate for missing dogs everywhere, and a great source of information for their owners. Take this post on why your lost dog may not run back to you- it’s full of compassion for pets and their people. So thank you Mel for sharing your experience and being such a strong voice for a great cause.

Blog Feature: Creating a Passive Income

01 Dec

Have you ever wanted to be able to sit around all day doing nothing and still have money rolling in? Even if you weren’t born with a trust fund, it is possible to make your money work for you, and not the other way around, though it may require some hard work for you at first.

Over at Creating a Passive Income, Derek and his staff writers are always looking at new ways you could be earning money without doing much of anything, once the initial investment of time and money has been made. This week, they investigated publishing royalties.

Blog Feature: You Did What With Your Weiner

24 Nov

We judge people by their dogs. We think differently about a woman with a Chihuahuathan one with a Lab. A guy with a Pit Bull is very different, at least in our minds, than the guy with a Border Collie. If you have small dogs, there are lots of things people think you can’t do with your dog. At You Did What With Your Weiner, they are working on proving those expectations false, doing their best to prove that even little dogs can have big adventures.

In fact, on Thanksgiving, they were out hiking snow covered mountains, mini-Dachshunds included.

Blog Feature: Broke Ass Mommy

10 Nov

There are many things I love about Broke Ass Mommy, but I think my favorite thing is her ingenuity. She is a stay at home mom, but she determined this summer that she would earn $1,000  through side projects. And she is almost there. She has done it via writing projects, sponsors on her website, and now, participation in her first focus group.  But no matter how much she talks about money, the one thing you will take away from this blog is how much being able to stay at home with her daughter makes being broke ass worth it.

Blog Feature: Oh, Corbin

27 Oct

On some level, it’s kind of nice to realize I haven’t featured one of my favorite blogs, yet. it makes writing easy. Corbin is a beautiful Pit mix who is one of the happiest dogs around. He often shares his happiness with foster dogs, almost all of them also Pit mixes- and guess what, everyone is happy and playful and gets along just fine.

Oh, Corbin is mostly told from Corbin’s point of view, though he occasionally lets ‘the mama” write something. This post, from two weeks ago, has almost no words, though, and is absolutely one of my favorites.

Blog Feature: What Your Boss Really Thinks

20 Oct

This week I want to highlight a fairly new blog, written by someone I already adore. It is called What Your Boss Really Thinks. As someone in middle management- I am a boss and have a boss, I love this blog. In fact, I am having a hard time writing about it this morning instead of just going in and commenting on every single post.

The one I want to highlight today is about telling a manager you have gotten a better job offer, especially if what you really want is a counteroffer. Attitude matters, and you can’t have one.
