MythBusters (ep 183)

09 Apr

Square tires? It’s classic MythBusters, but did they really say a smooth ride was plausible? Because if so, they should check their editing, with the parting shot of Adam and Jamie, saying let’s walk, it’s more comfortable. That statement belies any plausibility of a smooth ride.

I miss the days of one big myth, with the whole team working on it. In the “old days”, the MythBusters would have tested if two cars could get stuck together, and then after failing to make it happen, they would’ve presented the evidence from the crash site experts and moved on to maneuvers.

#The Voice (s2 ep11)

04 Apr

Did the West Coast see a different set of performances Monday night? I mean honestly, my two favorites for Team Blake were the two people that got sent home last night? And, the two people I think are least suited for this competition were voted through? (Let me be honest about Chris Mann- he has a voice. But I don’t know that he can tone himself down to pop. Maybe he should take his opera chops and try metal.) How, how did Charlotte Sometimes go home and RaeLynn be voted on through byAmerica? This is The Voice, not Idol.

The Voice (s2 ep10)

03 Apr

The live rounds started last night. Well, live everywhere but the West Coast where I am. Sadly, none of the performers blew me away. There were two performers on each team who I thought should definitely go through and then a couple more I thought were on the cusp.

I do like that there is a judges’ save.

For Team Blake, Charlotte Sometimes and Naia Kete were my favorites. I do not like RaeLynn.

For Team Christina, I liked Lindsey Pavao and Jesse Campbell. Chris Mann hasn’t shown me that he can sing pop like pop, instead of like opera.

MythBusters: Fire & Ice (ep 182)

02 Apr

I fell asleep for the last five minutes of MythBusters and woke up again just as Chain Reaction was starting. The final five minutes, when you see how the big myth of the episode ends, is the suckiest part of the episode to miss. C did tell me that the supped up fire extinguisher did a little bit, but certainly nothing like the viral video clip, which did not surprise me at all.

I was also not surprised that MythBusters found it “busted” that dust clouds could trick drone technology. That would not be a good thing to find plausible.

The Voice (s2 ep9)

27 Mar

The final battle tonight was amazing. I think it sucked that either Justin or Tony had to go home. In fact, it makes me mad that annoying former model Erin is still around when Justin had to go home. She is nowhere near as talented as he was.

I am happy that Tony won though. He’s the guy that can sing Queen and not make me cringe. I think he’s got great potential to win the whole thing.

None of the rest of the battles tonight really moved me, but I am excited to move on to the live shows.

MythBusters: Duct Tape Island (ep 181)

26 Mar

Duct tape is apparently more than a handyman’s friend, it’s an all-round survival tool, though I think it helped that Adam and Jamie had experience using it for some of these things (like boat building) before.

The shrink wrap was a legitimate tool since it came on the pallet of duct tape. Survivorman would approve.

I appreciated that while they caught the chicken, unlike Survivorman, they did not eat it. Nor did they try to hide the fact that they had cameramen with them (cameramen, or the lack thereof, are the main reason I prefer Surviorman to Man vs Wild.)

The Voice (s2 ep 8)

20 Mar

I missed the first battle of the night. I wish I could have missed the second and third battles. I felt bad for last week’s contestants that they had to go home and the two “winners” of those battles got to stay. I don’t think they can last long once we get to the live rounds. And despite not being impressed with any of those singers, in both cases, the coach picked opposite of what I would have.

I agreed with the choices for the fourth, fifth and sixth battles. I can see a couple of those people going far.

Series Premier: Unchained Reaction

19 Mar

Next Sunday, Mythbusters returns. In anticipation of that, last night we watched the series premier of Adam and Jamie’s new show- Unchained Reaction. Basically, each week there are two teams who are given a theme and a room full of stuff, and they make giant Rube Goldberg machines that fit the theme. The day before they have to show Adam and Jamie their machines, they get an added element (last night it was a piano) that they have to incorporate into their machines.

It was a fun show, though I don’t know that I’ll regularly stay up to watch it.

The Voice (s2, ep 7)

13 Mar

I’m boring right now, because for the most part, I agree with the judges’ decisions. I may not always agree with their song choices as I think song choice has a major effect.

I felt bad for the blond sandwich maker from Cee Lo’s team. I don’t think he sang badly, but the guy he was battling knocked it out of the park. Best performance of the battle rounds so far, in my opinion.

Now we know four of Christina’s team, two of Adam’s, and three each from Blake and Cee Lo. Overall, I think it’s a talent packed season.

The Voice (s2 ep6)

06 Mar

Battlerounds! I like that we did six in our two hours- lots of singing and not too much time spent on people we’ll never see again.

I was really impressed with the battles. There were some amazing performances. In a couple cases, I would have chosen differently than the coaches, but I could also understand why they chose the way they did. The only choice I really disagreed with was Blake’s first- Raelynn.

I know she reminds him of his wife, but the girl can’t sing anything outside country. I don’t think she makes his team stronger at all.
