#TheVoice (s2 ep18)

01 May

It was a great show last night. I thought everyone sang really well. No matter who makes the finals, it will be a good show. And I want to remind people that just being in the semi-finals can get contestants an album. It did for Blake’s semi-finalist last year.

Chris Mann has a voice. He still can’t sing pop, as the group performance showed. Erin Willett also got lost on the group performance.

My guesses for finals: Tony Lucca, Jermaine Paul, Lindsay Pavao, and Jamar Rodgers. The last really uncertain, but I think Jamar appeals to more people than Juliet.

Shoes do not make a difference in how you drive, but a full bladder does. While I agree, it is definitely not as bad as driving intoxicated, a lot more people are likely to drive with a full bladder than do drunk. Given that, I think it is important to show people that they are not as good of drivers when they are that distracted by discomfort. Remember when you were a child and your parents made you go to the bathroom before getting in the car, even if you did not have to go? Everyone should remember that lesson.

For once, all of my predictions came true. I think that is because last night, we had the most clear cut choices of the season. I could see Cee Lo wavering, with the comment about Cheesa having a voice- she does. But I do not believe that diva voices are necessarily better voices than rocker voices. Juliet will never sing Whitney Houston, but Cheesa couldn’t pull off Stevie Nicks- who sang with last year’s winner of The Voice during the finale.

For Team Adam and Team Cee Lo, the best singers and performers are definitely made it to the semi-finals.

Can I just start by saying Tony Lucca singing “One More Time” was brilliant! It wasn’t the best singing done all night, but it was the best performance. Absolutely fabulous.

Elimination wise, Cee Lo made the only choice he could. My bet for going home tonight is Cheesa. Jamar and Juliet are just so powerful. But if America saves her, it will be a hard, hard choice for Mr. Green.

Either Pip or Mathai could have gone home last night from Team Adam. I think Mathai should go tonight. I believe America will save Tony, and Katrina wowed last night.

I don’t disagree with the methodology or even any of the experiments conducted last night. However, I’m not certain that in most cases what the MythBusters were testing was the result of those differences. Maybe the emotional recognition and maybe the special recognition result from the physiological differences. But driving or map reading or grilling? Not so much.

They may have been a social construction. Women are worse drivers because we’ve heard comments all of our lives about “women drivers”. Men may have a harder time recognizing emotion because they are not raised with the belief that it is important.

I have mixed feelings about Chris Mann. I will not argue that the boy has a voice- an amazing voice. But he has not been able to tone down the opera to sing pop. He needs to either sing some heavy metal (all the best metal singers had operatic training) or embrace who he is and look to Boccelli as a role model.

I was positive, absolutely positive, that Erin Willet was going home last night. I knew America wasn’t going to vote her through, and I was certain Blake would choose RaeLynn. I was thrilled to be proven wrong.

Think back to the first episode of the season, when they advertised the albums of last season’s contestants. There were four- one for the winner from Adam’s team, one for Christina’s finalist, and two -TWO- from Blake Shelton’s team. (Cee Lo’s finalist does not have an album.)

Tonight proved once again why Blake is the best coach when it comes to supporting his team. Take the two team performances. Did you even notice Christina’s team on her song? No, it was all about her. But Blake did not take a single solo. His team performance was all about the team.

The thing I liked the least about Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was the preponderance of hamster ball scenarios, so I wasn’t certain what I was going to think of last night’s Jamie and Adam myth. But overall, I enjoyed it, and the reminder that professional trapeze artists are freaky strong. I’m not certain Adam helped the climb at all.

The build team built a rocket powered barrel- kind of. I liked that they had to go to an expert to replicate the results of the myth.

Am I the only person that misses the myths where everyone worked together?

Erin Martin is gone, and Tony Lucca stayed. I’m pretty happy with last night’s results. And if you were judging by who had more emotion (and nerves) singing for their spot, I agree that Katrina had more than Kim. I still think Kim was the better singer, but wasn’t surprised that the voters who put Pip and James through didn’t vote for an older, overweight woman.

I was sad to see Tony Vincent go. He is infinitely more talented than James, but I couldn’t argue with Cee Lo’s choice of Cheesa. She picked the right song with the right notes.

I don’t know if I should name my favorites from last night, as last week I seemed to curse the two best performers from Blake’s team. But that would be boring.

Team CeeLo had two outstanding performances in Juliet Simms and Jamar Rogers. I’d like to see Tony Vincent go through. But honestly, as long as Erin Martin goes home, I’ll be okay.

No one on Team Adam stood out. I’d like to see Kim Yarbrough and Tony Lucca go through. Katrina Parker and Pip would be my other choices, but I mostly feel kind of “eh” about this team.
