Gratitude Journal #21

Remember last week when I wrote that I thought doing my gratitude journal on Sunday nights would be a great way to end/start my week, as long as I remembered to do it? Yeah, I forgot yesterday. Or, I did not completely forget. In the morning I thought about it, but by the end of the day, I just plugged myself into a computer game and watching the Democrat debates (because I did not have a chance to watch them live). Gratitude journal was completely forgotten, until this morning.

Gratitude Entry #48 – Unexpected time with friends
Mid-week last week, the decision was made that my BFF would come hang out at our house all weekend. We did not do anything particularly special – went to a favorite Chinese food restaurant on Friday evening, and she went shopping with me on Saturday, but really nothing out of the ordinary. Well, I guess we did use the excuse of her being there to go get Blizzards on Saturday night. But other than that, it was a normal weekend schedule. And yet, it was so nice having her there, hanging out, talking, spending low key, unscheduled time with her.
I get that life gets busy for all of us, and sometimes fitting friends in in a specific window of time is what we have to do in order to see them, but I tell you, it was like being back in our early 20s, when we spent most of our time, just hanging out without any specific plans. It was a great way to feel young again, and reenergized for the week.

Gratitude Entry #49 – Democratic Primaries
As I mentioned in the intro, we did not have a chance to watch the first debates for the Democrats live. I was out Wednesday night, and we did not get home on Thursday until the debate was ending that night. So on Thursday we watched the first half of the first night of the debates. Last night, we finished out the first night and started the second night.
I am particularly happy to get to watch this bit of television online as there are so many candidates in the race right now that I do not know all of them. And there were some that really stood out for me, that I will be giving more serious consideration to. It is also letting me get an idea of how the top candidates might handle leading the party, should they be elected.
I do believe it is very important to take part in our electoral process, and to me, that means more than just waiting for things to sort themselves out. I think it is important to start having a voice as early as possible. And seeing these debates helps me do that.
