why this blog

DSCF2342I love to write. I am not really me if I don’t have a chance to write. It’s kind of like those Snickers commercials, I’m not me when I’m not writing. For a few years, I maintained multiple blogs- The Dog Ate My Wallet, about personal finances; Life by Pets, about my dogs and other pets; The Prose Passage, about writing; and 100 Words On, a daily blog that dealt with current events, politics, and pop culture in 100 word daily increments. But my life has gotten crazier in the last few years, adding a kid (now two) to my life, getting a new job with a longer commute (and actual work to do during work hours), and I just don’t have the time to write 11+ blog posts a week. Nor do I still have the energy.

In addition, things I want to write about now don’t always fall neatly into a category of personal finance, pets, or prose, and often don’t quite lend themselves to 100 word blurbs. I started feeling constrained by my blogs.

Don’t get me wrong, I love those topics, those formats. And I will still write about personal finances, and pets, and writing, and I’ll occasionally do a 100 word (or similar) post. But I want to be able to write about anything that comes to my mind. My life is one big jumble, and I want my blog to represent that. More than any previous blog, this blog is me. This is my life.

And maybe someday, when alien anthropologists are looking through our internet trash pile, they will come across this, and maybe have some insight into what one life on this planet was like. In the meantime, I hope my readers will share this journey with me.
