Pandemic Diary, Day 26

5:40a – C “Are you actually sleeping?”  Me “No, what do you need me to do for you?”  C “I need to send an email to work to tell them I’m not coming in for 2 weeks.”
And thus began my morning. C most likely does not have the virus. He is a smoker, who has been smoking more due to stress, and he is prone to sinus infections. But a cough woke him up in the middle of the night, and so, we are going with an abundance of caution. (Please note that up until a week ago, I got up at 5:30a every morning, so this was not all that early for me.”

5:55a – Well, I am awake, might as well take that shower that I decided I was too lazy to take last night.

6:00a – When wet, my hair still smells like smoke from the firepit I had going last Friday.

6:15a – Larry ate all of his boring, kibble only breakfast. Turns out what he needs in order to eat all his food is not extra yummies, but extra walkies.

6:40a – Time for morning walkies.

6:45a – Why is Junebug stretching out her leg in that funny way? Does she have a cramp? Does wiping down her foot and clearing stuff from between her pads make it better? It does. Walk continues. We barked at a jogger and a bunny this morning, but not birds, cars, or planes.

6:55a – Home. Time for tea and fruit.

7:06a – Crud! I am late logging on for work.

7:08a – Crap! I left the office door open and Junebug now has a pen. (I saved it before she destroyed it, but not before some permanent damage was done. It still writes though, so I am calling it a win.)

8:38a – Today I am watching/listening to Overly Sarcastic Productions on YouTube. Starting with History Summarized: Scotland

9:08a – Larry tells me it is time for 2nd walkies. Junebug is not certain she wants to get out of bed for this.

9:14a – We bark at a crow. Later on in the walk, Junebug wants to know why the other people we pass are not petting her. Larry barks at them for this affront to her honor.

9:27a – Both dogs get closed in the bedroom with C, so that there is not barking in the office when I have my meeting at 11a.

9:30a – I finish off a roll of toilet paper in the hall bath. (I know, this seems like oversharing, but TP appears to be an important resource, so this feels relevant.) Luckily, we have plenty and I grabbed a new role from under the sink.

10:08a – I am hungry. I think I will have some oatmeal. And since I am boiling water, I might as well make another cup of tea. I have a LOT of loose leaf tea. I may actually make a dent in it over the next 3 months.

10:56a – I am monitoring C’s work email while he went back to bed. They sent out an Essential Worker letter staff there are supposed to print out and show to officers if they get stopped on their way to or from work.

12:30p – Lunchtime walk cut short by horses on the trail. I love horses. However, Junebug took all of her Beagle instincts and specialized in “horse hunter”. Turned out to be a good thing, as the rain was starting to come down pretty hard by the time we got back to the house.

12:55p – Habanero Jack cheese is actually really spicey.

3:20p – So you know how just day before yesterday I commented that the ideal schedule would be 5 walks a day? I was wrong. Most days will be 3 walks, with the occasional 4. We just got back from our 4th walk of the day. At the start, even Larry was like “oh, we’re doing that again? Okay.” and Junebug was of the opinion that she would go along, but only at the speed of snuffling. (And since it is possible to pull her harness off over her head when she hunkers down behind me, that is the speed we went.) Even walking past another dog (a Lab) did not get them too excited. Though the mail truck going by was very energizing. But yeah, 3-4 walks a day, supplemented by the Wii. That’s got to be the plan.

5:30p – Thursday night has meant Picard for the last 10 weeks. The finale wrecked me. But even more, I am going to miss the happy anticipation of Thursday evenings.
