Gratitude Journal 2020 #4
What day of the week is it? Is tomorrow really Monday again? A Monday on which I have to go to work? What foul sorcery is this? Seriously, all these holidays crammed into four months (Veterans’ Day-Presidents’ Day) makes it seem like maybe we should have 4 day work weeks.
But, tomorrow is not a holiday. It is Monday, and I must go to work. But that means tonight is Sunday, and it is time to be grateful.
Gratitude Item #7 – New Art from Artists I Respect
This was a week of new media for me. The new William Gibson novel, Agency, was released. Picard premiered, and we finally ordered our copy of the latest LIVE EP (released over a year ago).
Gibson is one of my favorite authors. His books engage my brain in so many different ways. There will be a review when I make it through Agency, which is set in the same universe as The Peripheral (and I will likely re-read that soon). I am a Star Trek fan girl, especially when it comes to Patrick Stewart. There will be a 100 word entry on Picard soon. I want to try and make it through two episodes before I try to limit my thoughts to only 100 words. And LIVE is one of our favorite bands. We see them in concert as often as we can. We kept thinking they were going to put out a full album, but they have not, so we ordered the EP.
All three of these things make me happy. They bring joy to my life. And it makes me grateful that artists whose work I respect are still out there making art.
Gratitude Item #8 – The dogs can still do long walks with me
Last week was a weird week for my normal movement levels. With the holiday on Monday and working from home on Wednesday, I did not get in as many steps as I needed during the week, so that meant this weekend I needed to take long walks on both Saturday and Sunday. I took the dogs with me on both walks (huge surprise, I know). But given that the dogs are both officially senior dogs, I know they will not always be able to do this with me, certainly not two days in a row. And so, I am grateful that they are still in good enough health to go walk the trails with me. And I will be, as long as they are able to do so, no matter how many bicyclists Larry tries to chase or how many bits of trash Junebug tries to eat. (For the record, one thing I am decidedly NOT grateful for is how many people seem to think that because there are not trash cans along the trail, they can throw their trash anywhere.)
