Gratitude

Gratitude Journal 2020 #2

It was a very busy week at work. Classes were back in session, so students and faculty were back on campus. And, for the first time in a few weeks, I had to work a full FIVE days in a row. I often think that I would happily do a four tens work schedule where Wednesday was my day off. In addition, I did 18 phone screens over three days for the position I am hiring for. Yeah, busy week. But that’s okay. This next week should be a little less busy.

Gratitude Item #3 – Snow blower
You know how last week I started out by being grateful for cooperative weather? It was pretty much only that one day last weekend. Since then, it has been pouring. And today, it decided to snow. It was a very wet snow. The biggest problem being that it will get below freezing tonight, so that means that everything is going to be icy tomorrow. We took advantage of the last of teh afternoon light to open up the electric snow blower we bought last winter (after all the snow, of course). It does not throw wet snow very far, but it was still a lot easier to clear the driveway than it would have been without it.
C used the snowblower. I shoveled the base of the driveway (where the extension cord does not reach) and got the chunks of snow left by the blower. But it was really fairly quick and easy. So now our driveway is cleared and salted. With any luck, that means it will be safe to walk and drive down tomorrow.

Gratitude Item #4 – Reading glasses
I am the only person in my immediate family who does not need glasses as a general rule. But a couple of years ago, the eye doctor recommended I get reading glasses to help with eye strain. Since then, I sometimes used reading glasses but not always. I did not really notice the difference. In the last month or so, that has changed. At least with games I am playing on my tablet, I started noticing that the writing was blurry. I still knew what was going on, because these are games I play all the time, but it was definitely getting harder to see specific numbers on the screen. So I have pulled out the reading glasses, and what a difference they make. It makes playing my games easier and reduced eye strain.
There are many times when I would like to forget that I am getting older, but I am. And I need to remember to take advantage of the things that make aging easier, things like reading glasses.
