Gratitude Journal #14
Apparently, you can train your brain to be happier by keeping a gratitude journal, so I am giving it a go. My goal is post about 100 things I am grateful for over the course of the year. (This should average out to just a little over 2/week.) However, I am going to try and stay away from the standard family/friends/pets. Please know I absolutely am grateful for my family, friends, and pets. I would not have made it through the past couple of year without each of them. But if I am trying to train myself to be happier, then I want to start recognizing the smaller things in life that I am grateful for.
A little late this week, but I knew there were a couple of things coming up that I would be really grateful for, so decided to wait for them.
Gratitude Entry #31 – Good Earphones
Junebug loves to destroy earbuds. I do not know if it is
because they smell extra strongly of us because they spend so much time in ears
(and dogs naturally destroy things that smell strongly of the pack in order to
keep the pack safe), or if she just likes chewing the soft rubber. But whatever
it is, if I leave earbuds somewhere she can get them (and this includes in my
bag, on the table, because she can and will get on the table), she will destroy
them. As such, I own a number of cheap earbuds. Anywhere I go where they give
away cheap sets of earbuds, I get a pair. In general, I go through a pair of
earbuds every other month or so.
At the same time, I travel fairly frequently. And having a good set of
earphones on planes and trains is really nice, since I tend to listen audio
books while I travel. So, I have the cheap pairs of earbuds that live in my
work bag and that I use for listening to music on the bus on my daily commute,
and then I have a nice set of earphones that live in my travel bag. They are soft
on my ears, consistent in their sound quality and output, and even have a
microphone if I need to make a call. They make travelling so much comfortable.
Gratitude Entry #32 – Observation Cars
As I type this, I am sitting in an observation car on a
train from Seattle to Vancouver, BC. I was smart enough to think to myself,
what side of the train is the west side? And now I get to sit and watch the
ocean go by for the next few hours.
At some point, I will want to go to the dining car and get something to eat, at
which point, I am certain I will lose my premium observation car spot, but
until then, I have a gorgeous view, a relaxing ride, and a good audio book to
listen to. This is truly a morning to be grateful for.
