End of Quarter Budget Review

Gas is Expensive!: With a full quarter of the year gone, it’s time for a quick budget review. The area where I seem most off so far this year is on car expenses. I budgeted $190/month, to include paying for insurance and setting money aside for repairs. Right now, I look at this and think “where did I come up with my numbers?” Insurance itself is over $100/month, even though we pay every 6 months. Thatread more…

Guest Post: Preparing for Baby

As regular readers know, my mother-in-law passed away recently. While C and I are both doing fine, there are a million little things we need to take care of right now. The time has to come from somewhere, and in my case, that means no time to write quality posts for my readers here. Thankfully, I have some amazing blogger friends who instantly stepped up when I asked for help. So for the next week orread more…

Apparently, it’s Thursday

Things are a little crazy this week, and I pretty much forgot I needed to write a post. I’m pretty certain I was planning one on why you sometimes need to spend money on yourself, even if it seems like you shouldn’t. I guess that post will come next week.   Yesterday we submitted a rather important application, with a $300 application fee. We’ve gotten the email that they’ve received the application and will let usread more…

Forced to use Comcast (why I hate it)

Today I’m ranting. I try not to rant here too much. My friends and family get enough of that, but sometimes, I need to say it to a wider public.   Stupid Regulations Rant one is againstKingCounty, where I live. They have laws/regulations in place that restrict who can offer cable TV in the different areas of the county. Where I live, the only authorized cable provider is Comcast. (These regulations were passed in order toread more…

In Defense of 99 Weeks of Unemployment

There are a lot of people out there who are anti-the current unemployment system. They were especially against the recent constant extending of unemployment benefits. I can understand the reasons why, however, I believe that there are times when the government needs to participate in deficit spending, and this was one of the cases. (Would I have preferred it if the government had been smart enough to save for a rainy day when times were good?read more…
