The Day Got Away From Me

1) I passed my test yesterday. I am now an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professionl (CSCP). Thank you everyone for your good wishes. 2) I had meant to have a post up today. I really did. But this was my first non-studying day in over a week, and it somehow got filled with productive things like grocery shopping, mowing the lawn, and laundry. 3) I don’t mind doing laundry- the washing and the drying part becauseread more…

I am Getting a Bonus

Today’s post should have been my stock project update, but I haven’t had the time to do the analysis of it that I want to, so instead, you get to hear a little more about my lay off planning. I found out earlier this week that my current employer will be paying out bonuses related to 2012. Those of us whose positions have been selected for elimination will still be receiving that bonus. Through a bitread more…

Money Mistakes We’re Still Making (and Not Regretting)

We are bad at saying “No” to good sales pitches. We just are. I know this. It is the reason we have a timeshare (and I still don’t regret it). Maybe that lack of regret played into my decision that we should attend a Direct Buy presentation when the offer was made. I know it had something to do with the $200 worth of restaurant.com gift cards they offered, as well as the two round tripread more…

The Story of a Mortgage

We bought our current house in late March 2005. The price was $242k and the interest rate was 6% (which was considered a good interest rate at the time). We had not quite $7k down and our original mortgage was for $235,250. It was cheaper for us to have the single mortgage and pay PMI than it was to have an 80/20, which is what we had on our first house. At the time, cheaper mattered, read more…

Making a Smart Long Term Decision is Causing Me Short Term Panic Attacks

I have mentioned that we are refinancing the house. In fact, it is one of my goals on my Sunday Evening Post. We were paying 6% interest. We are moving down to 4% interest. We are also extending the life of our loan by 8 years. Our monthly payments will go down about $500. This is a good thing. So why am I having a minor panic attack about the whole process? I think I willread more…

Can Anyone Recommend a Good Plumber?

We have a house fund for a reason. And we add a fairly considerable chunk of money to it each month so that we can afford home repairs, whether they are scheduled or emergencies. Intellectually, C and I both know this. In reality? We both hate spending that money. The plan for this spring/summer is to replace all of the windows in the house. There aren’t many (9), but our living room window is of theread more…

Money I’m Thankful We Spent

We bought our house in February 2005. The basement has flooded at least once every winter, and sometimes more often. The first couple of floods weren’t going to be helped. We have a heat pump, which serves as a dehumidifier and pulls water out of the air. The first time our basement flooded it was because the pump hooked up to the heat pump failed, so instead of pumping water out of the house, it justread more…

Replacing an Appliance

Ever since we bought this house, 6.5 years ago, C and I have wanted to replace our refrigerator. It is small and not fabulous. But every time we looked at replacing it, we would realize that we could only replace it with another refrigerator exactly like it because of the height issue. The over the fridge cabinets come down far enough that there is only one model of refrigerator that will fit in that space. Ifread more…

Home Inspection

Today was the home inspection for our foster license/home study. For those who are wondering, yes, we passed. We are essentially done with everything we can do on our own at this point. We have to wait for J’s background check to come back (they messed it up and had to redo it). Then, our social worker completes her report. She calls us in to review it. She submits it to her boss and then submitsread more…

Getting Closer

Because I know you’ve all by dying to know how getting our home ready for the foster licensing has been going, today you’re getting an update. We’ve made progress. I’m not certain anyone besides us can tell exactly how much progress we’ve made because the house, the downstairs and baby’s room, especially, is still a disaster. I think our basement isn’t currently fire safe because we have so many boxes stacked in passageways that it wouldread more…
