A Walk Around the Blogs: A Little Bit of Everything
So far today I’ve already picked up poop and mowed half the yard. I have to wait for the battery to recharge on the mower before tackling the second half, so it’s a perfect time to take a nice relaxing walk around the blogs. We’ve got a little bit of everything today, so I hope that means we have something for everyone.
The Serious
Over at Kenzo the Hovawart and Viva, they continue the fight against breed specific legislation. A sad incident in which a yellow lab was killed for simply walking on the wrong guy’s lawn has sparked outrage. But Leo asks us to remember that it is just as tragic when we kill a pit bull for simply being in his open letter to Mette Gjerskov, the Danish Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
Cindy Lu’s Muse asks all of us would be rescuers if we really have the ability to rescue animals, or if we’re in danger of actually harming them in Rescuer or Tormentor. We all know the hoarding stories where these folks though they were saving animals. This is extra on my mind this week as Old Dog Haven, the rescue we foster Howie through, has been asked to take in three little Chihuahuas from a hoarding case. All three dogs are unadoptable and need final respite homes. If you’re in the Seattle area and think you might be able to help, please contact me so that I can put you in touch with the rescue.
The Medical
My friend Jana at Daily Money Shot has two dogs and a feral cat that she cares for. One of her dogs has recently decided that toys- specifically Barbie’s accessories, would make good snacks. And we all know what means- My dog ate toys. I paid. Literally
Training
The question at Rescued Insanity is often who’s training who? Currently, Kristine has gotten the crazy notion (I call it crazy because I’m fat and out of shape) to run in a 5k, and she’s using Shiva as her running coach. And that might just be so crazy it works.
Lindsay of That Mutt is also talking training, of the most basic kind, as she answers the question Why are dog obedience training classes important?
Fun
You will often find training posts over at Of Pit Pulls and Patience, but this week, I’m highlighting her current look at off leash areas near her (since I do dog park reviews of my own pretty frequently). I love large open spaces where dogs can just run, and I think if I were to ever have my dogs on the other side of the country, I would totally want to visit The Hunting Grounds (though my Beagle just might have to remain on leash).
And I know I normally do six links, but today we have seven, because really, who can resist puppies, and the House of Two Bows has found themselves in the midst of Puppy Season.
