Mr. Chewy Review
The Offer: I know, I know, I’m like the 500th blogger to do a review of Mr. Chewy, and you know what- I don’t care. I was very excited when Mr. Chewy contacted me because this was the first time- the VERY FIRST TIME, any legitimate advertiser has contacted me about any of my sites. So it made me very happy. Thank you, Mr. Chewy, for that.
Then came the decision making. I honestly considered doing a give-away for my $50 gift certificate. After all, that’s how you grow blog traffic. And besides, am I honestly going to change how we buy our dog food? And the answer to that is “No”, and I knew that going in.
Shopping: But even if I was going to do a give-away, I figured I still needed to experience Mr. Chewy service myself in order to write a review, so I went to the site and looked around. They carry an amazing array of treats- including gluten free and all natural treats. What I didn’t find much of was the treats we prefer- jerky, where the only ingredient is the meat. (We do also buy a chicken jerky that has vegetable oil and salt as additional ingredients to the chicken.)
They do carry the Greenies pill pockets that helped us give June her meds when the charm of peanut butter started wearing off, and I considered stocking up on those.
But after looking at all the treats and trying to decide if I would order any, I finally actually looked at Mr. Chewy’s home page and realized they have Frontline. And that’s when I decided I was using my gift certificate.
While we can usually get away with flea treating our dogs every other month in the summer, Old Dog Haven asks that we flea treat Howie every month. And the prices they had on flea treatment rivaled CostCo, which is where we normally get our Frontline. $70 for a six pack of Frontline is a pretty good deal. $20 (with my gift certificate) for a six pack of Frontline is a phenomenal deal. And that’s what I went with.
Ordering: Of course, after making the decision to order the flea treatment, things took a turn for the worse with my MIL, and then she passed, and I completely forgot about ordering the product until last week.
Ordering was easy, though it did take me a minute to figure out where I should enter my coupon code for my gift certificate (on the bottom right hand part of the screen). But once I spotted that, everything went through quickly and easily. A few days later, our package arrived.
Now this is a pet peeve of mine- we got a text book sized cardboard box containing our single package of flea treatment. It could easily have gone in an envelope instead of a box. I know packaging materials are very expensive, so companies use what they have, and Mr. Chewy isn’t expecting a lot of really small orders like mine. I get that, but it doesn’t change the fact that I don’t like overuse of packaging materials.
In the end: So final review: We won’t use Mr. Chewy, because they are not right for us. We buy CostCo kibble, and that’s not going to change. While they have an amazing array of dog treats, they don’t have the dog treats we prefer. They do have good prices on flea and tick prevention, but not so great that I won’t just continue to buy from CostCo.
But for people who live in the heart of a city, who don’t drive regularly, or perhaps don’t even have a car (we’re in the burbs and have 2 cars), I can see how Mr. Chewy could be a lifesaver (or at least a back saver). Or if you live in a rural area and don’t have access to a lot of the specialty foods and treats, Mr. Chewy could be a great way to get your pet the gluten free treats he needs.
They do have good prices and free shipping on any order over $49. And it only took a few days to get our order.
Plus, it turns out that if you buy from them today, they’re having a 15% off storewide sale. So if you think Mr. Chewy might be a good option for you, today’s a good day as any to go check them out.
