I Wish They All Could Be Border Collies (Van Halen Version)

February 28, 2012 | Filed under: Pictures

I was tagged in a meme from Chronicles of Cardigan and I promise I will get to that this week. But I’m feeling lazy right now, so instead of a real post, I thought Iwould share one of the most amazing videos I’ve seen in a long time.

David Lee Roth (yes, THAT David Lee Roth) apparently works herding dogs in his spare time. Observe:

I love that this was filmed by a pro in HD video. It really lets you get a good idea of the distance these amazing dogs work at

Awesome video! DLR is quite a character, isn't he?

I know. I couldn't believe it when a friend posted that to FaceBook last night. I just had to share here.

I love herding dogs. 🙂 Border Collies are just incredible at what they do. When I took JF and Dewi to be instinct tested, the professional trainer had brought her Border Collies with her. She used them (to show up all the stubby Cardigans) oh, wait! (where's the strikethrough button?) they were there to round up the happy/rested sheep (from an enormous pasture) and bring them into the ring to relieve the grouchy/tired ones. It was an incredible sight to see this woman just give the dogs a verbal cue and then they were off…

My two stubs (btw) will chase sheep, but would need LOTS of training (and it's just too expensive and time-consuming) to compete in herding. DLR certainly seems to be in his element, though. 🙂 (Glad he lost the 80s hair!)

We always wanted to get our Aussie tested with sheep, but it was just too expensive. And I was afraid he'd be a natural, and then I'd just feel guilty for not letting him herd
