Summer Misadventures part 3: Breakable, Bendable Humans
Early on a Thursday morning, I took the dogs to the park. I had two phone interviews later that morning and wanted to make sure the dogs got their exercise in. I took the dogs down one of the forest paths from the parking lot to the off leash area.
While on the path, we stopped so the dogs could sniff a tree. After giving them a few moments, I said “let’s go” and took a step backwards.
I heard three pops and next thing I knew, I was on the ground. My ankle hurt, but more importantly, I had dropped Junebug’s leash. Luckily, she was just staring at me, wondering what I was doing down there, and I was able to quickly grab it.
At almost the same time, Larry was jumping on me, checking to make sure I was okay. I honestly wasn’t sure.
Slowly, I got myself to my feet. My ankle HURT. I took deep breaths to get through the pain, and apologized to the dogs and turned back up the path, back toward the parking lot. We moved, a few steps at a time back to the car.
There was a squirrel running around the area, and we stopped at another tree for a minute or so while they tried to jump at it. And then continued on our journey.
The dogs very nicely, jumped right back into the back of the car. I, gratefully, got a chance to sit down, and was very thankful it was my left ankle that was hurt, so I could drive somewhat safely. And then, we headed back home. I thought I’d get there and just go in, take some pain killers and put my foot up. But about 2/3 of the way home, I realized I was in too much pain.
I called C. He had a momentary panic attack as I called him, obviously upset, from the dog park and worse case scenarios ran through his head. Instead, I told him I was going to need him to come get the dogs from the car and then take me to urgent care.
We spent the whole morning in urgent care (I was able to call and reschedule both of my interviews), me getting two x-rays of my ankle and foot to make sure nothing was broken. It wasn’t, just a very bad sprain.
And so ended our summer of misadventures, with me being the only one with a significant injury.
