Back to the Drawing Board
Junebug does NOT have a ruptured saliva gland. The cultures came back from the lab, and there is no indication that the fluid pulled from her chin is saliva. It is also not cancer. It is consistent with inflammation and infection. So, back on a course of Baytril to see if that takes care of this. If it doesn’t, we have to go to a specialist. The regular vet doesn’t feel comfortable dealing with this because it’s such an odd case.
The good news is that surgery is not indicated at this time, so we can go see a specialist near us, instead of on the other side of the state. She still has two impacted saliva glands, but they aren’t necessarily the cause of the swelling/fluid in her chin.
I think I need to gather all the posts regarding this and create a special category- the Saga of Junebug’s Glands, so that I can have a handy reference for dates, diagnoses, and theories about what has happened with our little girl.
On a completely different note (but still about Junebug), the other night when I went to bed, she curled up at the head of the bed with her head just barely on my pillow. Her head pressed slightly against mine, all nice and soft, and there was puppy breath in my face (yes, I know, a three year old dog doesn’t really have puppy breath anymore, but it was still nice). I put a hand out to rest on top of her soft little paws. It was the most relaxing part of my day, and I hadn’t even had a stressful day, but still, lying there with my cheek against my little girl’s head, it was just a little piece of heaven.
