Back to the Drawing Board

August 2, 2012 | Filed under: Pet Health

Junebug does NOT have a ruptured saliva gland. The cultures came back from the lab, and there is no indication that the fluid pulled from her chin is saliva. It is also not cancer. It is consistent with inflammation and infection. So, back on a course of Baytril to see if that takes care of this. If it doesn’t, we have to go to a specialist. The regular vet doesn’t feel comfortable dealing with this because it’s such an odd case.

The good news is that surgery is not indicated at this time, so we can go see a specialist near us, instead of on the other side of the state. She still has two impacted saliva glands, but they aren’t necessarily the cause of the swelling/fluid in her chin.

I think I need to gather all the posts regarding this and create a special category- the Saga of Junebug’s Glands, so that I can have a handy reference for dates, diagnoses, and theories about what has happened with our little girl.

On a completely different note (but still about Junebug), the other night when I went to bed, she curled up at the head of the bed with her head just barely on my pillow. Her head pressed slightly against mine, all nice and soft, and there was puppy breath in my face (yes, I know, a three year old dog doesn’t really have puppy breath anymore, but it was still nice). I put a hand out to rest on top of her soft little paws. It was  the most relaxing part of my day, and I hadn’t even had a stressful day, but still, lying there with my cheek against my little girl’s head, it was just a little piece of heaven.

I hope you find out what is ailing her so you can address it quickly.

I love when I wake up and Sampson and I are nose to nose or his head is resting on some part of me. It doesn't matter if I am uncomfortable or not, it may be 3:00 am, but I will put my hand out, smile and go back to sleep. They are definitely stress relievers!

"Quickly" isn't the right word. We're going on close to a year now since the original sting.

I have that same experience at night. I often reach out to sort of "hold" my dog's paw. It's very peaceful and relaxing to drift off to sleep! Best of luck with your baby.

Thank you. I love getting to cuddle my Junebug mostly because she normally prefers to cuddle with C.

What is it with dogs perching on cucehos like cats? My beagle used to do the same thing! Until she fell off one day and I guess it was tramatic enough to scare her from doing it again. And no, I did not push her. John did. She’s fine now. And even lets him pet her..

I love the boxer pic! I grew up with boxers and they are the best dog hands down. The only pets we have right now are bunines and I do not foresee a dog in our future but if we ever get one it will definitely be a boxer! We had a couple of brindle ones like the one on the back of your couch, so cute!!

Actually, the dog on the back of my couch is a Beagle

Waiting to find out how to fix the problem is the worst. Hopefully the specialist can figure it out soon.

Junebug has the cutest wrinkly face! Her fur looks so soft, I love the image of holding one of her soft little paws. Duke likes us to hold a paw when he's sitting next to us on the couch.

She let me cuddle her again last night (but only because C wasn't coming to bed yet). I love her little feet.
Not surprisingly, the Baytril doesn't seem to be doing anything for the swelling in her chin, so I expect we'll be in with a specialist soon.

Ummm this is hilarious-looking. But I would never put any of my dogs in this. My smlelast dog is too chubby, my middle-sized dog would just find a way to escape out of it, and it wouldn’t work for my black lab .for obvious reasons. Plus, it just looks ridiculous. Embarrassing for the owner AND the dog. Hehe.
