Marymoor Dog Park – a review
This past weekend, we had a chance to check out Marymoor dog park. We met up with some other friends and their dogs, and took a stroll around the 44 acre park.
The walk along the river is lovely, and if you have a dog that like to get wet, there are plenty of places for throwing a ball in the water and having the dog go in after it. This area is also very shady and a lovely walk.
Away from the river, there aren’t really any trees, but nor are there any real good ball chasing or just dog playing spots. There are a few open field areas with grass, but the grass is taller than most smaller dogs. The rest appears to be bushes and brambles- areas that call to Junebug’s instincts to go check them out. There is something about underbrush that attracts Beagles like nobody’s business.
My biggest problem with Marymoor, though, was that along that back section, there were no water stations. Now, it doesn’t get hot in Seattle very often, but this weekend, it was 80 and sunny. In the hot sunny part of the park, there was no water. (And naturally, I hadn’t been able to find our travel water bowl before we left the house.)
I enjoyed our trip to Marymoor, and if either Larry or June had shown real interest in the river, we’d go back, but for the most part, its not the kind of dog park that works for us. Unless you’re playing fetch in the river, Marymoor is the place you take your dog on a walk without a leash.
We went back to Grandview , our regular dog park (maintained by the same organization that does Marymoor), on Sunday. Grandview is nothing but open areas for dogs to run, chase balls and each other.
Its set up can lead to a few more scrums, but the socialization and play is what we’re looking for. That and being able to throw the ball a nice long way for Larry.
