Back at the Dog Park
We got Larry on a Sunday, and on the following Tuesday, we took him to the dog park. Remember how I mentioned that fox terriers bond quickly? He did, and it certainly didn’t feel like we were going too early in the process. (I think we took Smokey to a dog park within 24 hours of brining him home, so this just seems to be what we do.)
Larry was on leash aggressive on the way from the car to the off leash area, so we decided to leave him on leash at least at the start, get a bit of walking done and wear off some of his energy.
We made it around the path and up to a less busy part of the park and took Larry’s leash off. I shouldn’t have worried. While he is very interested in playing (and seems to pick big dogs to have an attitude with), he’s not aggressive. He also listened quite nicely.
The only lasting concern has to do with his size. There are portions of the gates at the dog park that Larry can squeeze around, getting him out of the off leash area. Luckily, he appears to have no interest in going a direction that we’re obviously not going.
And the timidity that Junebug had developed at the dog park? Apparently that arose from being there without a doggie friend. From the first moment we were at the park with Larry, she was her old, adventurous self, following her nose wherever it took her.
