Dognapper!
For future reference, it takes one full week for Larry to warm up to having a new dog in the house. Naturally, Marley was with us exactly one week.
On Saturday morning, the day Marley was going home, Larry finally decided that he was ok to play with. And play they did. It was pretty cute, overall, as Larry normally picks on dogs bigger than him, so it was fun to see him adjust his play style to a dog only half his size.
Larry was not mean to Marley before this, but he did treat him as an outsider, not really one of the pack. He grouched at Marley; he did not play with him, at least not until Saturday morning.
And then, Saturday afternoon, Marley’s family came to take him away. Larry does not like strange men to begin with (and he has only met Marley’s dad once before), so there was much unhappiness about him even being in the house. And then, when he picked up Marley to carry him out (because they forgot to bring his leash- luckily we have extras), it was like Larry was yelling “Dognapper, dognapper” and looking to us wondering why we were not doing anything.
However, it did not take long for Larry and June to both be quite content with having all the people in the house to themselves again.
In the end, I find this encouraging for our future fostering prospects- our dogs’ ability to handle new dogs coming in and dogs leaving.
