The Destroyer of All Bedding

January 7, 2011 | Filed under: Stories
Like many babies, June likes having a pacifier. In her case, it is anything soft. At 18 months, she still loves to have a blanket, pillow, or a piece of your clothing in her mouth as she gets ready to go to sleep. This can be very cute, but she doesn’t really care whether or not she has a bit of you along with the soft thing, and her teeth are quite sharp.
Sadly, we are the mean people who always tell her “no” when she tries to mouth the bedding. This is for two reasons. 1) Paranoia- we lost Moree to eating a bath towel. We have no desire to go through that again. 2) Cost – bedding is expensive.
Nowadays, she mostly just mouths things, but in her first few months with us, it all had to be chewed. She put holes in every piece of bedding we owned. We have only slowly started replacing sheets and blankets. Some day, I will once again have a memory foam pillow without a missing section, or blankets without holes, but not yet.
