My Puppy Tried to Adopt Another Family
The first time we took June to the dog park, we went to our usual giant, no gates place. We’d only had her a few weeks, but we weren’t worried about her running away because the one time she had gotten out of the house, she had come back when called, and really seemed to have no escape instinct at all.
We decide to stick to the upper section where there are fewer dogs, but plenty of room for her to romp and play with Smokey. Smokey is used to taking a tour of the whole place, but figures out pretty quickly that we’re not doing that today. However, he himself loves to run, and June, on her much shorter legs can’t quite keep up with him.
At a moment when Smokey had outpaced June, up the hill walks a young couple, pushing a baby stroller, and with a German Shepherd puppy of their own. Puppy instantly recognized puppy, and all around cuteness began as they chased and tumbled through the tall grass.
However, the GSD puppy’s family was on its way out of the dog park. Well, June just kept following them. The paper work from the shelter said she came from a family with small children, so the stroller must have felt quite familiar to her.
She followed them right out of the park, to their SUV, and in to the back seat. This was exceedingly unfair to their own puppy, as he had to ride in a crate in the back, but there was June, settling herself right next to the car seat in the second row.
We retrieved her, and she went on to have a nice romp with Smokey. But after that, we started looking for dog parks with gates again.
