Pondering the Coming Winter (part 1)
We’ve been blessed with a lovely 6 weeks or so of weather. Summer seemed to arrive late here this year, but when it came, it came. Yesterday was the first day of rain since sometime in July, and it was just lovely.
However, after all those weeks of warmth and sun, it seems a lot of people don’t feel the need to be at the dog park. We were there at the time that there’s usually a good scrum of people and dogs we know. Not so this time.
We caught a glimpse of Echo, but she and her owner stayed in the picnic area where there was shade. Dexter and Sadie were there, and June even did some chasing of Dexter. But that was it. 5 dogs in the dog park.
It was a fairly light rain while we were there, and the temp was in the mid-60s, so it was a really pleasant evening. But the number of people at the park is going to get fewer and fewer as we approach winter (and the park closes earlier, since it closes at dusk). And the weather is will get worse and worse.
The thing is, Larry NEEDS the dog park, or somewhere he can run on pretty much a daily basis. When we skip the dog park, you can tell.
So we’re either going to need to get ourselves some good wet weather gear, or finally check out the place that calls itself an indoor dog park. Winter and shorter days will be here soon enough, but my dogs will still need to run.
