Don’t Fence Me In

August 18, 2011 | Filed under: At the Dog Park
Larry has learned that he can jump the fences at the dog park. Luckily, he’s a pretty good dog and comes back when called, but this is still not a skill I’m thrilled that he picked up.
He especially likes to go over the fence along the areas where there are little ponds. He doesn’t play in them, but he likes to drink from them- despite the fact that there are water bowls and doggie water fountains throughout the park and we always make sure they have ample opportunity to drink.
But no, fresh water isn’t fun. Water out of a bowl isn’t fun. He must go over the fence and drink pond water.
On the other hand, if he can’t get a running start, the way he jumps the fence is completely adorable. One leap up takes him to a point that his front feet reach the rail at the top and he scrambles up, perching for a moment kind of like a bird, before jumping down the other side.
